Who rushes out on opening night to see a Tom Tykwer film?
It just seemed like the thing to do. Run Lola Run
is one of my top ten favorite films ever (he wrote and directed that one; he directed and co-wrote this one with Andrew Birkin and Bernd Eichinger; this one is an adaptation of a book by Patrick Suskind, which I have not read). The Arclight has these 21+ screenings, and I was itching for something to get me out of the office on Friday night, so I went to the late show of Perfume: The Story of A Murderer. Well, it was good to do something different, anyway. And pretty to look at. And, umm, memorable.Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer in 25 words or less:
Suffered from slow development and a deeply unsatisfying denouement, and leaned on its narrator for too many shortcuts. Too faithful to its text? Pretty, disappointing. C. Current Mood: should get back to work
