"This pattern includes an extended sequence in which Harry must run from phone booth to phone booth, answering Scorpio's calls in the hopes of rescuing a kidnapped teenager, and which climaxes in a torture, a shoot-out, and a stabbing almost ten minutes to the second from when the sequence began."
From "Action Speaks Louder: Violence, Spectacle, and the American Action Movie" by Eric Lichtenfeld. Available at an e-tailer near you. I'm getting my copy inscribed by the author tonight. Jealous?
So I'm feeling better, and I'm able to reflect upon a week of serious ups and downs, which began with the end of a fantastic (albeit brief, by necessity) visit from yaoobruni, continued with a varied population of hard-working and emergency-filled sick days, some really cruddy news for some of my friends, some really good news for some of the same friends, some gut-crunchingly frustrating days of political despondence, followed by personal reconciliation and determination (not worth talking about - the subject's gone stale for me now), a boring dinner, a nice quiet dinner, and lots of other contrasting things. It ended with a great movie that missed no opportunity to delight, though, and I'm happy with the start of the weekend (an emotional and challenging yoga class, and preparations for cake-baking and, hopefully, working-at-home and fun birthday partying and with-friends-hanging-out).
Now on to that movie.
