This one's just here for the suspense.

Saw 5 movies over the last couple of weeks. Here they are:

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou in 25 words or less:
Seemed lackluster, as if trying to be deep merely by being random and blasé. It had flashes of brilliance, but smart money sees Huckabee's instead.B+.

House of Flying Daggers in 25 words or less:
Beautifully filmed, magnificently decorated, masterfully choreographed and performed . . . Kung fu melodrama. Sappy and fanciful, but aah, if only all kung fu melodramas were like this. A-.

Finding Neverland in 25 words or less:
Depp and Winslet are each subtle and effective in this multifaceted tear-jerker. Perhaps a little manipulative, but mostly charming, a la Dead Poet's Society. A-.

Saved! in 25 words or less:
Much more substantial, and wickedly funny, and heartfelt, than I expected. I laughed, I cried, I admired the writing and performances. Full of quotable quotes. A.

Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King Extended Edition in 25 words or less:
The new scenes were enjoyable, but while some improved the film (from my recollection), a couple actually detracted from it, and none seemed strictly necessary. A-.

And a signal-boost from megastoat: I think I have a crush on the trailer for Sin City.

Next post: the exciting part.
