Thanksgiving is one of the few American holidays that approaches truly nationwide status. Which is not to say that everyone celebrates it - one Native American friend in particular has expressed decidedly mixed feelings about it, and there are curmudgeons out there who conscientiously object to any and all holidays - but it's a pretty universal thing. School lets out early, families and friends gather, and (turkey or no) there is something about it that is comfortable, or holidayish, or both.
So happy Thanksgiving, all. I'm leaving work early today to go to the movies and to ponder the many things in my life for which I to give thanks, including all of my wonderful friends. (yeah, that means you.)
